👥 The Childress ISD 2026 Bond is based on the recommendation of a 50-member Citizen Advisory Committee made up of parents, educators, business and community leaders.

Over two months, the committee met five times to study district facility assessments, financial data and public school finance before bringing its recommendation to the Board at its July 13 meeting.

The 2026 Bond program reflects the committee’s priorities, based on local input, shared values and long-term planning.

💡 How does the age of a school building affect energy efficiency?

At Childress Junior High, the 100-year-old building has aging infrastructure, including leaking windows and deteriorating walls, brick and plaster. New HVAC units are designed for energy-efficient buildings, but the age of the building can affect the system’s ability to regulate temperature effectively.

Prop A includes renovations and new construction to the existing Childress High School to create a combined secondary campus for junior high and high school students.

🏃 100% of Childress Junior High students participate in athletics or PE and use athletics facilities, while 75% of Childress High School students participate in athletics and use athletics facilities.

The current high school weight room was built to serve 30 student-athletes at one time. Due to the lack of space, only in-season teams may use the facility. With multiple teams practicing at the same time, the size of the room cannot accommodate all teams, causing scheduling conflicts.

If approved by voters, Prop C would authorize the Childress ISD Board of Trustees to sell bonds in the future for a $9.1 million new athletics field house, only if taxable assessed value increases enough to issue the debt while maintaining the district’s current tax rate.

The new field house would include a training room, meeting rooms, girls’ and boys’ locker rooms, storage and a weight room. Learn more about Prop C at https://www.childressisd.net/bond
